Cinco de Mayo is a day to remember not only the Mexican defeat of the French in 1869, but has been cast as a Mexican heritage day in North America.
As with most holidays, there is a much higher occurrence of driving while intoxicated than on regular weekends.
As such, law enforcement tends to set up a series of DUI checkpoints in order to catch people driving under the influence before they can cause harm to themselves or others.
The DUI checkpoints in Los Angeles this weekend will be set up in order to dissuade would-be intoxicated drivers, and to catch those who choose to drive under the influence during celebrations for Cinco de Mayo.
In Los Angeles County, from May 3rd to the 6th, there will be several DUI and sobriety test checkpoints throughout Los Angeles including Hollywood Blvd., Ventura Blvd., Western Ave., Sunset Blvd., and the Harbor, Mission and 77th Street areas.
If you’re going to go out and celebrate the holiday with parties that include Dos Equis, Tequila and Margaritas, you can keep yourself out of harm’s way by planning ahead and nominating a designated driver, taking a taxi home, or simply staying where you are through the night.
If you’re caught driving under the influence, at best it can mean jail time, the loss of your license and a hefty fine and DUI classes.
At worst, you could get into a wreck or severely injure or kill yourself and/or others. Those who are driving drunk and injure or kill another person are typically charged with vehicular manslaughter and frequently find themselves behind bars.
Driving drunk just isn’t worth it. So plan ahead, stay safe and have a happy holiday from all of us at Adventure Bail Bonds.
