The 4th of July is almost here, and the LAPD is wasting no time in promoting a safe and happy Independence Day.

During yearly celebrations, there is usually a sharp uptick in DUI’s and other alcohol-related arrests.

Not only that, but during the revelry, guns are often fired into the air, often causing injuries and/or deaths when the bullets inevitably return to the ground.

In an effort to get drunk drivers off the road before any harm can be done, the LAPD is instituting several sobriety checkpoints all over the Los Angeles area.

They will also be actively seeking out anyone who discharges firearms into the air. The indiscriminate firing of weapons in Los Angeles is a felony that is punishable by a year in state prison. Should anyone be killed by the fallout, the arrested individual(s) will be charged with murder.

In 2009, a 9-year-old boy was killed by a stray bullet falling from the sky. Since then, law enforcement agencies have instituted a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to discharging firearms into the air, especially on the 4th of July – when it happens the most.

If you’re going to go out and celebrate, remember to do so responsibly. If you’re going to drink, always have a designated driver or plan to stay where you are.

Also, remember that fireworks are illegal (even the safe and sane kind) everywhere in Los Angeles County. If you want to see fireworks, it’s best to stake out a spot near one of the professional shows all around the city.

From all of us at Adventure Bail Bonds, have a safe and happy Independence Day!
