Memorial Day weekend is here! A weekend punctuated by remembrances of Americans who died for our country, whether a part of our family or not, and lots and lots of barbecues. For us in Los Angeles County, there’s no shortage of things to do this weekend to celebrate Memorial Day. Here are just a few of the many, many events being held this holiday weekend.

  • The Valley Greek Festival will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church on Balboa Blvd. in Northridge. Firefighters and military personnel will be admitted free of charge with a valid ID. The festival will be chock-full of Greek food, entertainment, games and prizes. It’s definitely something the whole family can enjoy.
  • In Canoga Park, the 26th Annual Memorial Day Parade will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday May, 25 and run down Sherman Way between Owensmouth and Cozycroft. The parade will feature floats, live music and tons of people.
  • The Main Street Memorial Day Weekend Block Party will take place in Santa Monica and begin on Sunday at 3 p.m. and end on Monday at 2 a.m. The weekend block party will include drink specials, food specials, live music and DJs and will take place on Main St. in Santa Monica.

While there are a number of things to do in Los Angeles County this Memorial Day weekend, the most important thing is to remember the sacrifices that were made so that our way of life can be possible. No matter what you decide to do, whether you attend one of the public events or stay at home, remember that the roads can be a dangerous place on holiday weekends. If you choose to consume alcohol, make sure you have a safe ride home.
