How much do you spend on your Valentine? Are you the type who goes all-out, forking over several hundred dollars for an extravagant dinner, roses, and jewelry? Or perhaps you’re more of the “less is more” type, spending little in the way of money but putting a lot of thought into the gift you get? What would you do if your Valentines Day cost you $15,649 dollars or more? That’s what you’ll be paying in fines if you’re caught driving under the influence by one of the Valentines Day DUI checkpoints in Los Angeles this weekend.
Over the course of the weekend, the LAPD will be enacting “saturation patrols” throughout the city. “Saturation patrols” are when the police put additional squad cars, foot/bike patrols, etc. in certain areas of the city in an attempt to increase police visibility among the populace and deter would-be drunk drivers. Sometimes, all it takes is the presence of police in the area to spook someone into acting responsibly and taking a taxi, or simply abstaining from drinking until they reach their final destination. On Sunday night in North Hollywood, from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., extra police will be on the streets of North Hollywood looking for signs of impaired drivers.
As well as saturation patrols, there will be a DUI checkpoint in Reseda from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday night on Sherman Way and Yolanda Ave.
It’s likely that there will be other DUI checkpoints throughout Los Angeles this weekend that have gone unannounced. If you plan to enjoy alcohol, make sure you have a safe ride home.
