The Pasadena police working out of the Pasadena Station and the nearby Altadena Station serve the law enforcement needs of the incorporated areas of the city. The unincorporated areas, though, are patrolled by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies.
When arrested, an individual will be taken immediately to the police station where they will undergo the booking and processing procedure. After that, the individual will be held at the Pasadena jail for only a short period of time. The jail is very small, and it’s purpose is only to hold inmates temporarily. Typically, individuals will remain at the Pasadena jail until they are granted one of several options for release, or are arraigned in court.
Once they are arraigned, if the court requires that the individual remain in police custody until their trial, the inmate will be transferred to one of the larger jails in downtown Los Angeles. Men will be taken to Twin Towers or Men’s Central, while women are transferred to the Lynwood Jail. Once transferred, the inmate will likely be required to spend an additional 12 to 24 hours in custody as they are processed in to the new facility. As such, it’s usually best to get the bail bond application process started right away in order to avoid the transfer and the lengthy stay in police custody.
Options for Release
A bail bond isn’t the only way to get someone released from police custody before their trial. Here are a few additional options that are available for those who qualify.
- Own Recognizance – Also known as “O.R.” own recognizance releases entail a judge allowing an inmate to be released, provided that the inmate provides a written agreement to the court that he or she accepts the responsibility of showing up for all of their court dates on-time.
- Cited Out – Individuals arrested for minor infractions and traffic violations may be eligible to be cited-out. All an inmate must do is make a promise to appear before the court at the appointed date and time, and he or she will be released with no further contact with law enforcement.
- Property Bonds – If an individual owns a piece of property and the equity in said property is worth at least 150% of the amount of bail, the courts can put a lien on the property in lieu of bail in order to secure an inmate’s release. If the inmate meets all of their court obligations, the property remains in their hands. However, if they fail to do so, the court can foreclose on the property.
- Cash Bonds – When a judge sets bail for an inmate, it’s possible to pay the court clerk cash in the entirety of the bail amount in order to be released from custody. Like property bonds, if an individual meets their court obligations, the cash is refunded (minus any relevant fees and charges). If not, then the cash is forfeited to the court.
What is a Bail Bond?
If an individual is not eligible to be released on their own recognizance, or cited out, then a bail bond is likely their best option. Property bonds and cash bonds both require a pretty large asset to be available in order to be released, as bail can be pretty expensive. That being said, most people don’t have much real estate that they own, or several thousand dollars in cash they can fork over to the court. A bail bondsman, though, can be of great service in instances like this.
We will meet and beat any locally advertised price! We add no additional charges or fees when you work with us, nor do we charge interest if you choose to finance your bail bond. Our goal is to help you get your friend or loved one out of jail as fast as possible, not to put financial stress on families. For clients who are interested in financing the cost of a bail bond, we have several flexible payment plans that are designed to fit a variety of budgets. Regardless of how you choose to pay, we never include any additional fees, charges or interest.
Now, unlike cash bonds, the fee that is paid to the bail bondsman is non-refundable, even if the individual meets all of their court obligations. If the individual does not show up for court, then the signer of the bail bond will be on the hook with the bail bondsman for the full amount of bail.
The Bail Bond Process
Obtaining a bail bond is pretty simple, and we do the vast majority of the work for you. All that is required is that you provide the name, birth date and date and time of arrest of the individual you want bailed out so we can locate him or her within the system and verify their eligibility for bail. If only some of the aforementioned information is available – that’s ok! We can still help you out.
Once the inmate has been located and their eligibility for bail verified, you will need to fill out a few short, simple bail bond application forms and an indemnitor’s agreement. Once complete, we will dispatch one of our agents to the jail and your friend or loved one will be released a few hours later.
We said the bail bond process is easy already, right? Well, as a matter of fact, it’s so easy that you don’t even have to meet with us in order to do it. The entire bail bond application process can be completed from start to finish via phone, fax or email. Whatever is most convenient for you will always be most convenient for us.
