The Inglewood police station and jail are staffed by 192 sworn officers. Those arrested in the City of Inglewood are taken immediately for booking and processing to the Inglewood police station, and will either remain there until their arraignment in court or will be transferred. Men will be transported to the Twin Towers Correctional Facility. Women will be transported to the Lynwood Jail.

Those transferred to one of the larger jails may experience a significantly longer stay in custody due to the fact that these facilities are some of the busiest jails in the world. When transfer occurs, an inmate can expect to spend at least an additional 24 hours in custody as they are processed into the system at their new location. When the bail bond application process is begun shortly after their arrest, though, this transfer can usually be avoided altogether.

What is a Bail Bond?

One of the more frequently asked questions we receive from clients is “what, exactly, is a bail bond?” A bail bond is probably better described by its alternate name, a “surety bond.”

Basically, bail is a financial incentive for the court to allow an inmate their freedom as they meet their court obligations. If an inmate does so, there is no further charge. However, should they fail to do so, the entire amount of bail must be paid by the signer of the bail bond.

Do I Need to Use a Bail Bondsman?

Short answer – no. Anyone can walk into the court, pay the entire amount of an inmate’s bail and secure their release. If the inmate meets their court obligations (regardless of the outcome) then the entire bail amount is refunded to the person who paid (minus any court fees involved). If they fail to show up for court, though, a warrant is issued for their immediate arrest and the entirety of the bail amount is forfeited to the court.

Bail costs can be as little as a few hundred dollars, or as much as many thousands. As such, there are precious few individuals capable of waltzing up to the court clerk and paying an inmate’s bail in full; that’s where a bail bondsman comes in handy.

If the defendant fails to meet their court obligations, you (the signer of the bail bond) are still responsible for paying the full amount of bail to the court. As a result, it is highly, highly advisable to only bail out those whom you know and trust.
